Dr. Kapil Kochhar is a leading Minimal Access Surgeon (MAS) and Bariatric Surgeon from India with 25 years of surgical experience and more than 10,000 Laparoscopic Surgeries to his credit in India and abroad. Having graduated from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in 1990, he has worked with top most hospitals of the country both in private and public sector. He did his post-graduation in General Surgery from Maulana Azad Medical College only.
After finishing his MBBS he worked with Lok Nayak Hospital and G B Pant Hospital, New Delhi for seven years before starting his own private practice in 1998. While in private sector he has worked with some of the most prestigious names in healthcare, like Moolchand Hospital, Max Hospitals, Fortis La Femme and Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon besides a brief stint with Apollo Hospitals Delhi and Artemis Health institute Gurgaon. Having joined private practice didn’t stop him from rendering four hours of charitable OPD every week from 1998 to 2011 at Guru Harkishan Hospital, New Delhi. He has also operated hundreds of cases for almost free at this hospital, as this was his only way of paying back the society.

Dr. Kochhar has been a pioneer in introducing Laparoscopic Surgery to even the remotest areas of north India. He travelled extensively various small cities in Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and even Manipur to impart Laparoscopic Training to numerous young Surgeons and Gynaecologists.
Not only India, he has extended his sphere of work to many other countries. He was instrumental in introduction of Laparoscopic Surgery in Afghanistan. He made multiple trips to Kabul to perform Laparoscopic Surgeries there in 2010-2011. He has been conducting regular clinics in Nigeria, Malawi and Ghana, all in the African continent. Very soon he might be starting OPDs in Iraq, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
He has professional recognition as a surgeon from Medical Councils of Afghanistan, Nigeria and Malawi. He is also registered with the Medical Council of India (MCI), Delhi Medical Council (DMC) and Haryana Medical Council. He also received his E.C.F.M.G certification from USA in 1993.
He also started a society with the name of “Tubular Vision” which has Gynaecologists and surgeons as members from all over India and abroad. Tubular Vision conducts regular CME and conferences to impart training to young surgeons besides spreading the awareness about Minimal Access Surgeries.
He is also the founder member of NGO called HAIF—Help Aids India Foundation. HAIF works actively in organizing charitable camps for patients across all specialities like Oncology, Neurosurgery, Gynaecology, General Surgery, AIDS etc. It also arranges for Laparoscopic Surgeries for the under privileged sections of the society at very nominal rates. Dr. Kochhar is on the faculty for Hernia Academy run by Johnson & Johnson, India. He is also on the faculty of Diplomat National Board of Examinations, India. He has presented numerous papers in various national and international conferences. He also has a paper published in World Journal of Surgery in year 2000. As a guide of DNB programme, a successful research entitled “feasibility of Laparoscopic Hernia repair in regional anaesthesia” was completed under his mentorship.
Dr. Kochhar has been performing all Advanced Minimal Access Surgeries including Bariatric Surgeries and Laparoscopic Cancer Surgeries on patients from India as well as other countries. Just to name a few, he has been routinely performing sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Hiatus Hernia repair, Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy, total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, Laparoscopic Abdomino Perineal Resection(APR) .
